A Jeff is for life, not just for Christmas

There's lots of Jeff the Seagull knit kits going out in the post today to people who'll be finding Jeff in their Christmas stocking this year! And because his kit is only £10 plus postage, he makes a great Secret Santa gift, too. Just remember, Jeff is for life, not just for Christmas - along with all the yarn and notions you need to create a pair of gulls, you also receive a printed knitted pattern, so you can make as many Jeffs as you like, all year round!

Seagull knit kits!

Here's my first ever knit kit, Jeff the seagull! Each kit contains enough yarn, stuffing and notions to knit yourself 2 Jeffs, plus the knitting pattern, so you can make an inifinite number of Jeffs using your own DK once you've finished the kit. Each kit contains an exclusive Jeff button badge as well! Kits are £10 plus shipping, and they're available from my Etsy shop or from Venue 20 of Worthing Artists Open Houses, during the open house event in June/July.

Seagull work in progress

Here's a work-in-progress photo of some little knitted gulls that are an adaptation of one of the first knitting patterns I ever did. I've simplified these by losing some of the felt details and changing the beak to a simple knitted shape - I quite like these new streamlined gulls.

Seagull and the stars

Knitted seagull getting a bit confused about a vintage map of the sky for December (it's upside down, gulls aren't great at stuff like this...) If you'd like to knit one, the knitted seagull pattern is in my Etsy shop (this one doesn't have the optional wire legs but the pattern comes with full instructions if you want to add them).

Plarn seagull

I love this! The brilliant designer Jane Robertson used my seagull knitting pattern to create a plarn seagull as part of a craft bomb at her local harbour, for a Voluntary Arts Week event.

Plarn is a type of plastic yarn, which you make by cutting carrier bags into strips. There's some plarn-making instructions here, if you fancy giving it a try.

Here's the craft bomb at North Berwick harbour. It looks great and I'm so happy to have one of my knitting patterns taken off in a new direction like this, thanks Jane!

Seagull knitting pattern

If you'd like to knit a seagull, you can buy this gull knitting pattern from my Etsy shop! This is a small herring gull, about 5 inches tall. The life-size version that you can see in The Wool Bar will be along soon...

This small version is super-cute, well-behaved, and knits up quickly on 4mm needles. I've included detailed step-by-step photos on how to make the wire feet in the four page PDF pattern.

Worthing seagull

 

 

Here's my large knitted herring gull! I took him down to Worthing beach this morning for a blustery photoshoot before delivering him to his new home at The Wool Bar in Warwick Street. Pop in and say hello to him (and Caroline, who'll be naming him!). As you can see, he enjoyed exploring the shop and I left him sitting on The Wool Bar's wooden table, being eyed up by Warwick Street's real-life gulls outside.

There will be a knitting pattern for him, and his smaller version, very soon.

Cute seagull

 

My lovely local yarn shop, The Wool Bar, have asked me to knit them a life-sized Herring Gull. The street that they are on, Warwick Street, in Worthing, has a particularly large and determined gang of gulls who make rich pickings from Warwick Street's many cafes.

I'm a bit concerned that the life-sized knitted version will attract a bit too much attention from the feathered gull mafia outside, but we shall have to wait and see.

This little fellow isn't life-sized. He's a small prototype gull who I am going to scale up to large scale over the next few weeks. He's a lot cuter than the Warwick Street gulls but hopefully when he's bigger, he'll look a bit meaner. I'd particularly like to capture that look in their eye just before they steal your chips.
